Sheriff Race Update for Wed, May 16

The race for sheriff is heating up with just three weeks left until the June 5 election. Here are a few updates from those vying for the public’s trust.

Bob Lindsey Interviewed on NPR Show AirTalk
Bob Lindsey was interviewed by National Public Radio host Larry Mantle on the 89.3 KPCC show AirTalk. Lindsey spoke for about 10 minutes about how LASD has been mismanaged under Sheriff McDonnell and about how he would reform the department. Click here to listen to a recording of the interview.

Jim McDonnell 90210
Jim McDonnell got some pretty fawning coverage this week from the Beverly Hills Courier about how he’s faring under accountability by reformers Bob Lindsey and Alex Villanueva.

You have to be a subscriber to read the interview, but basically McDonnell talks about how smart he is and describes his accomplishments over the last three years as…well, basically it’s a work in progress.

“I’m running because so many of our reforms are still underway,” McDonnell told the Courier. “The feedback we’re getting is very positive [unclear from whom] and we’re moving forward in that regard, but the work is never done.”

McDonnell explained that morale was low at LASD when he took over…and, well, yep.

“The organization had been demoralized and damaged,” said McDonnell, who received a vote of no confidence two weeks ago. “We’ve worked hard to restore shine to the badge and set our standards high and we’re still working at it.”

Alex Villanueva Lands Endorsement of Former Supervisor Gloria Molina
Alex Villanueva, who is also running for sheriff, received the endorsement of former Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina Tuesday night. Congratulations to him!

Villanueva has received a number of endorsements from local Democratic clubs and officials. Click here to learn more about them.
